DRAFT — pending legal review. This describes what the app collects and is a starting point only. It is not legal advice; because this is a children's app, have counsel review it and complete every [bracketed] item before real families use it.
Andy & Opie Fishing Tournament — Privacy Policy
Effective date: [DATE] · Last updated: 2026-08-20
The Andy & Opie Fishing Tournament app (the "App") is operated by [Operator legal name], organizer of the Andy & Opie Fishing Tournament, and built by Techno Goober. This policy is written to be read by the parents and guardians of the children who take part.
This App is used by children. A parent or guardian registers each child and must consent before the child takes part. See "Children's Privacy" below.
The short version
- We collect only what the tournament needs: a guardian's email to sign in, a child's first name and date of birth, a wristband number, and — for each catch — a photo of the fish on the measuring mat, the time, the GPS location, and the measured length.
- We use it to run the event and show a leaderboard — nothing else.
- We do not sell personal information, show advertising, or track children.
- A parent or guardian can review or delete their child's information at any time.
Information we collect
| What | About whom | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | Guardian / volunteer / admin | Passwordless magic-link sign-in; account identity |
| First name | Child (angler) | To show the angler on the leaderboard |
| Date of birth | Child | Only to set the correct age division |
| Wristband number | Child (per event) | A check-in code mapped to the child's profile |
| Catch photo | The fish on the mat | To measure length and confirm the catch |
| Catch GPS location | The catch | A single point when logged (not continuous tracking) |
| Catch time | The catch | Leaderboard order and fair-play checks |
| Length / species | The catch | Scoring and leaderboard |
| Volunteer identity | Volunteer | Volunteer entries are the authoritative record |
We also keep basic, short-lived technical records needed to run the service (e.g. server logs). We do not collect children's contact details beyond a first name, children never have passwords, and we do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
Photos and location
Photos are taken by volunteers of the fish on the measuring mat to measure length — not portraits of children. Location is a single GPS point captured when a catch is logged, to support fair-play checks; the App does not follow a child over time.
How we share information
Only with service providers who help run the App: Resend (delivers the sign-in emails) and [hosting/storage provider] [fill in once finalized; the App currently runs locally and is not publicly hosted]. We do not sell personal information or share it for advertising.
Children's Privacy (COPPA)
The App knowingly collects personal information from children under 13 (first name, date of birth, catch photos, catch location), so we treat COPPA as applying. A parent or guardian registers each child and must consent before participation [confirm the exact verifiable-consent method with counsel]. We minimize what we collect, never market to children, and give parents the right to review, delete, and refuse further collection of their child's information.
Data retention
Catch records are an append-only log during the event. Afterward we keep personal information only as long as needed and no longer than [retention period], then delete or anonymize it. A parent or guardian can request earlier deletion.
